Exercise and Movement Education Accreditation
Recognizing Excellence in Parkinson’s Exercise & Movement Education
Exercise Education Accreditation
The Parkinson’s Foundation Exercise Education Accreditation Recognition Program distinguishes top-quality exercise education programs and courses designed specifically for Parkinson’s disease (PD). These programs meet the Foundation’s rigorous Criteria for Exercise Education Curriculum and Competency Framework for Exercise Professionals.
Our goal is to reduce variability in training, elevate professional standards and ensure that every person with Parkinson’s receives high-quality, evidence-based programming.
Movement Education Accreditation
Exercise and movement are deeply connected. Whether through structured exercise classes or expressive movement practices, both support strength, agility and overall well-being for people with Parkinson’s.
Beginning in 2026, the Parkinson’s Foundation invites Movement Education Providers to apply to the Accreditation Recognition Program. While exercise is a vital part of managing Parkinson’s, we recognize that movement encompasses a broader, holistic approach to physical activity. This new category honors programs that specialize in tailoring movement experiences — such as dance, yoga or functional movement — to meet the unique needs of people living with PD.
Bringing Professionals Together
- Exercise Professionals follow the Parkinson’s Exercise Guidelines, focusing on fitness principles, training, and progression.
- Movement Professionals follow delivery models rooted in their unique techniques — dance, yoga, Tai Chi and more.
We celebrate these differences while setting a unified benchmark for competence, safety, and quality across all physical activity professionals working with the PD community.
The Foundation’s competency framework outlines how programs and courses educate and train exercise and movement professionals to apply their existing knowledge and skills, as well as design and lead classes or sessions for people with Parkinson’s. Download the criteria and competency framework below.
If you provide Parkinson’s-specific training to exercise or movement professionals, either as a program or continuing education course, we encourage you to apply for Parkinson’s Foundation accreditation.
