The Parkinson’s Foundation is excited to announce applications are now being accepted for Neurology residents to participate in an exclusive educational program hosted by the Foundation.

The 2026 Parkinson’s Foundation Neurology Residents Program will be held from October 19-21, 2026, in Reston, VA (Northern Virginia and DC area – NOVA). This initiative is designed to introduce Neurology residents to the specialty of Movement Disorders through the Parkinson’s Foundation Team Training program with a focus on Parkinson’s disease (PD) and interprofessional models of care—a critical, yet often underrepresented, component in formal residency training.    

Why Participate? 

  • Immersive Learning Experience: Learn from and engage with interprofessional healthcare teams including physicians, APPs, nurses, psychologists, physical and occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, social workers, and others to develop knowledge and skills in team-based, patient-centered care for Parkinson’s disease. 

  • Career Exploration: Gain exposure to Movement Disorders and interprofessional care models to help inform your career decision. 

  • Mentorship & Networking: Engage with leading experts in neurology and Movement Disorders, including the Parkinson’s Foundation Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and our Team Training Faculty who will provide guidance and support throughout the program design process as well as teaching/training. 

  • Fully Funded: Registration, travel (ground and air), lodging, and meals will be covered for the Neurology resident attendees. 

  • Future Impact: The program aims to increase the pipeline of Movement Disorder Specialists (MDS) in the U.S., helping address the urgent need for more specialists to treat the growing number of people diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

  • Small group sessions with case-based presentations, learning, discussion, etc.

Who Should Apply? 

This program is designed for rising PGY2 Neurology residents currently working in the USA who will be PGY3 by October and are interested in Movement Disorders or still exploring their career focus in neurology.

Interested neurology residents should use the link below to apply for pre-approval to secure a seat in the program.

Training Details 

  • Dates: Monday through Wednesday, October 19, 20, 21, 2026 (three full days) 

  • Location: Reston, VA (Northern Virginia and DC area – NOVA).

  • Participants: Up to 25 Neurology residents will be accepted into this program.  The selected residents will participate along with approximately 85 other HCPs representing clinicians on the MDS teams. 

  • Financial Support

    • Hotel: Up to 4 nights (October 18, 19, 20, and 21) at the Sheraton Reston Hotel. You must use the hotel room block reservation link provided by the Parkinson's Foundation to book your own room reservations by June 30th. Reservations outside of the room block or other hotels will not be covered.

    • Meals covered: 

      • Conference breakfast and lunches 10/19 - 10/21

      • Exclusive resident / faculty dinner on Tuesday, 10/20

      • Networking reception on Wednesday, 10/21.

    • Stipend: A $950 stipend is provided to cover air/ground transportation, meals outside the conference, incidentals. You must book your own flight and email your paid reservation with the required payment documents to receive the stipend.
      *Note:  The stipend will be reported as 1099 income. You are responsible for any tax implications.*

  • Residents who complete the training will join the group of Team Training Alumni which will give them access to other trained alumni to continue growing your HCP network and will have the opportunity to join our monthly office hours for alumni to receive updates on key Parkinson’s research and clinical care. 

Program Learning Outcomes 

At the end of this activity, learners will be able to: 

  1. Differentiate between the clinical characteristics of early, mid-, and late-stage Parkinson’s to guide appropriate care interventions. 

  1. Apply team care strategies to support individuals with Parkinson’s and their care partners in improving self-management and quality of life. 

  1. Engage in interprofessional collaboration to optimize care coordination and improve outcomes for people with Parkinson’s and their care partners. 

  1. Strengthen interprofessional networks and community partnerships to enhance the delivery of comprehensive team-based care.

How to Apply?

Step 1: Interested neurology residents currently in PGY2 who will be in PGY3 in October 2026 should complete the short application form below  for pre-approval to secure a seat in the program.

Step 2: Approved residents will receive an email with a registration link and payment code to register on May 1. Residents will have until May 8th to complete the registration, before the seat is given to someone on the waitlist.

Step 3: Watch for emails regarding the program and for securing hotel and travel arrangements. All travel arrangements (hotel / air) must be completed by June 30th.

This is an incredible opportunity to enhance Neurology residents’ knowledge and skills, strengthen their interprofessional collaborations, and for them to become part of the solution to the growing need for Movement Disorder Specialists.
