Course Description

The Parkinson’s Foundation Physical Therapy Course is an evidence and practical-based course comprising six chapters. This course delivers practical, evidence-based knowledge on effectively assessing and treating individuals with Parkinson's. Designed by expert physical therapists, clinicians, educators and researchers in the PD field, this course uses interactive video lectures and interactive lessons to prepare fellow physical therapy professionals to better understand how to evaluate, treat and deliver comprehensive Parkinson's care.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, physical therapy educators and researchers, exercise professionals and other healthcare practitioners who are interested in physical therapy and Parkinson’s.

Learning Objectives

  • Design physical therapy programs for people with PD based on aerobic and resistance training research findings for both intensity and overload.
  • Demonstrate the core set of outcome measures recommended by the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy EDGE (Evidence Database to Guide Effectiveness) task force in the care of persons with Parkinson's.
  • Describe the elements of a secondary prevention approach as a model of care in the physical therapy treatment of persons with Parkinson's.
  • Build an interdisciplinary care team for optimal quality of life for people with PD and their families.
