Course Description

Designed by Parkinson’s nurse specialists to help other nurses better understand how to deliver comprehensive care to people living with PD, this new multi-module course provides the latest in current treatment and care strategies.

By taking this 9-hour course, participants will better understand how to deliver comprehensive care to people living with PD and their families. The course focuses on long-term care, acute care nurses, recent nursing graduates or other nurses who want to improve the care they give to people living with PD.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of long-term care and acute care nurses, recent nursing graduates and nursing students who have limited knowledge of the disease and aims to ensure better care for people living with PD.

CEUs

This course is available for CEUs for a nominal fee or can be viewed for free without any CEUs.

This continuing nursing education activity is approved for 9 CEUs by the American Associate of Neuroscience Nurses, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Course Description

The Parkinson’s Foundation Physical Therapy Course is an evidence and practical based course comprising six chapters. This course delivers practical, evidence-based knowledge on effectively assessing and treating individuals with Parkinson's. Designed by expert physical therapists, clinicians, educators and researchers in the PD field, this course uses interactive video lectures and interactive lessons to prepare fellow physical therapy professionals to better understand how to evaluate, treat and deliver comprehensive Parkinson's care.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, physical therapy educators & researchers, exercise professionals and other HCPs who are interested in physical therapy and Parkinson’s.

Learning Objectives

  • Design physical therapy programs for people with PD based on aerobic and resistance training research findings for both intensity and overload.
  • Demonstrate the core set of outcome measures recommended by the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy EDGE (Evidence Database to Guide Effectiveness) task force in the care of persons with Parkinson disease.
  • Describe the elements of a secondary prevention approach as a model of care in the physical therapy treatment of persons with Parkinson Disease.
  • Build an interdisciplinary care team for optimal quality of life for people with PD and their families.

This course delivers practical, evidence-based knowledge on effectively assessing and treating individuals with Parkinson's. Designed by expert physical therapists, clinicians, educators and researchers in the PD field, this course focusses on the more relevant information for physical therapists who may not see many people with Parkinson’s but want to understand the most important aspects of how to evaluate, treat and deliver comprehensive Parkinson's care

PT Intro Course (5 hrs, no CEUs, Free)

Parkinson's Foundation Professional Talk Series: Interprofessional Care Team Approach to Cognitive Changes in Parkinson's (3.5 CEUs, $29.99 fee)

Course Description

Parkinson’s Foundation Cognition Talk Series is a 7-part online course focusing on cognition concerns and challenges of living with Parkinson’s disease. Each section (30 mins) of the series is presented by a specialized health professional discussing cognition from their viewpoint.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of neurologists, movement disorder specialists, neuropsychologist, primary care providers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, social workers, and any other health care practitioner interested in learning more about the cognition concerns and challenges of living with Parkinson’s disease.
