Parkinson’s Foundation Announces Moving Day Fall 2021 Event Lineup

MIAMI & NEW YORK (September 30, 2021) — Today, the Parkinson’s Foundation announced the Fall 2021 event lineup for Moving Day, a Walk for Parkinson’s. Moving Day is the Foundation’s signature fundraising event and a movement for more awareness, funding and a better understanding of Parkinson's disease (PD). This season puts forth an exciting roster of socially distanced, in-person gatherings, which will take place in 16 cities across the country.

One million Americans are living with Parkinson’s, with 60,000 people newly diagnosed each year. Moving Day is an inspiring fundraising event that honors loved ones with PD, celebrates movement and raises funds to advance quality care and cutting-edge research. Leading up to each event, participants and teams fundraise to support the Foundation’s mission to make life better for people living with Parkinson’s.

“The return of in-person Moving Day events reflects the positive momentum in the fight against Parkinson’s as communities unite with thousands of supporters for a shared common goal,” said Kayln Henkel, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer of the Parkinson’s Foundation. “We are energized and inspired by the dedication of every person who plays a part in Moving Day in support of the Parkinson’s community.”

Each Moving Day event is tailored to meet state and city COVID-19 guidelines. In addition to local events, the Foundation will also launch Moving Day @ Home — a series of virtual Moving Day events taking place Oct. 2, Oct. 23, and Nov. 13. Welcoming walkers of all ages, speeds and abilities, especially those without a nearby event, Moving Day @ Home will provide the feeling of an in-person event with digital leaderboards, chat rooms and a live walk coach cheering everyone on along the way.

Since 2011, Moving Day has gathered more than 150,000 participants and raised more than $30.8 million to improve care and advance Parkinson’s research toward a cure. Funds raised through Moving Day support the Parkinson’s Foundation national mission by delivering quality care to more than 193,500 people living with Parkinson’s, funding cutting-edge research to advance toward a cure, providing free resources and local services for people living with Parkinson’s and their families.

About Parkinson’s Disease
Affecting an estimated one million Americans and 10 million worldwide, Parkinson’s disease is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s and is the 14th-leading cause of death in the U.S. It is associated with a progressive loss of motor control (e.g., shaking or tremor at rest and lack of facial expression), as well as non-motor symptoms (e.g., depression and anxiety). There is no cure for Parkinson’s and 60,000 new cases are diagnosed each year in the U.S. alone.
