Parkinson’s Foundation to Host Parkinson’s Revolution in 26 Cities Nationwide

Virtual and in-person cycling events raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease

NEW YORK & MIAMI (February 1, 2024) – The Parkinson’s Foundation will host Parkinson’s Revolution – an indoor and virtual cycling experience – on Saturday, Feb. 24 in 26 cities across the U.S. Parkinson’s Revolution is a high-energy, high-intensity, indoor cycling event that combines passion, determination and community to generate funds and awareness for Parkinson’s disease (PD).

One million people in the U.S. are living with PD, and a recent Foundation-backed study revealed that nearly 90,000 are expected to be diagnosed this year alone – a 50% increase compared to previous estimates. The Foundation is the nation’s leading community for people living with PD, those who love them and those who are working to end the disease.

“Parkinson’s Revolution is a wonderful example of how the entire Parkinson’s community is rallying together to raise funds and awareness for a common cause while enjoying the benefits of exercise,” said John L. Lehr, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Parkinson’s Foundation. “In 2024, we are excited to expand the ride to new cities across the country while continuing to empower the PD community with a virtual option.”

Riders of all abilities are welcome to gear up, clip in and join the revolution. The program features an indoor cycling ride, an opening and closing ceremony, and opportunities for participants to learn more about PD. The event directly supports the Foundation’s mission of improving care and advancing research toward a cure, while also providing local PD communities with additional resources that can help improve quality of life.

New events will be offered in Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, and Toledo, OH this year. Those interested in participating can register online for a local event, and those who prefer to ride virtually from home can choose a city event closest to them and register for the national team – Parkinson’s Revolution USA. Participants can recruit a team of riders or join solo alongside others in the community.

Launched in 2020, Parkinson’s Revolution is one of the Foundation’s signature events, and has cumulatively raised more than $1.5 million. For more information or to register, visit ParkinsonsRevolution.org.

About Parkinson’s Disease
Affecting an estimated one million Americans, Parkinson’s disease is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s and is the 14th-leading cause of death in the U.S. It is associated with a progressive loss of motor control (e.g., shaking or tremor at rest and lack of facial expression), as well as non-motor symptoms (e.g., depression and anxiety). There is no cure for Parkinson’s and nearly 90,000 new cases are diagnosed each year in the U.S.
