Senior Director, Data Operations

The Senior Director, Data Operations, is a member of the Operations Department and reports to the AVP of Data & Donor Relations. This position owns enterprise data across the Foundation’s systems, defining the constituent data model, deduplication strategy, and reporting strategy that keeps constituent information accurate, consistent, and actionable. The Senior Director leads the Foundation’s data team—including the CRM and Fundraising Technology teams—manages vendor and contract relationships, oversees the data ecosystem between systems, and partners with departments across the Foundation to drive data-informed decision making in support of the Foundation’s mission, engagement, and annual fundraising goals.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Enterprise Data Management

  • Own enterprise data across systems; define and maintain the Foundation’s constituent data model, ensuring constituent information is collected, structured, and shared consistently across platforms.
  • Define and lead the Foundation’s deduplication strategy, including matching criteria, merge protocols, and ongoing constituent record hygiene.
  • Manage the data ecosystem between enterprise systems; monitor integrations and data flows and take appropriate and timely action when gaps or discrepancies arise.
  • Serve as the Foundation’s Power Automate owner, developing and maintaining automated workflows that connect systems, reduce manual work, and improve data reliability.
  • Establish and maintain standard data operating procedures, including data quality standards, policies, best practices, and documentation.
  • Lead the Foundation’s Data Governance and Programmatic Data groups to ensure compliance with data policies and regulations.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Lead the Foundation’s reporting strategy; define list requirements and criteria, maintain an inventory of reports, and uphold a secure reporting environment to ensure long-term consistency and data integrity.
  • Maximize the Foundation’s use of the data warehouse; identify reporting needs across the organization and streamline processes to deliver timely, actionable insights.
  • Partner with stakeholders to maintain email and data hygiene protocols that enhance deliverability and protect data health across the Foundation’s primary business and digital engagement tools.

Vendor Management & Strategic Collaboration

  • Manage vendor contracts and relationships for the Foundation’s data and engagement tools (e.g., DNL, Quorum), including sourcing new vendors, arranging internal demos, managing contract review, and evaluating project ROI and suitability.
  • Oversee vendor performance on technical projects, including project scoping, budgets, timelines, quality review, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Drive data-informed strategic decision making across the Foundation; partner with departments to understand their data collaboration and support needs, prioritize projects, and provide budget recommendations.
  • Explore and implement streamlining opportunities for the department; analyze current workflows and team responsibilities to identify areas for optimization and efficiency.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders, fostering a shared understanding of data initiatives and their impact on the Foundation’s goals.

Team Leadership & Project Management

  • Fully manage and develop the CRM and Fundraising Technology teams, supporting each team member’s professional growth and ability to deliver strong results in support of the Foundation.
  • Project manage new system implementations and other initiatives as needed, coordinating with cross-functional teams to keep projects on schedule, address roadblocks, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Mentor and provide technical and strategic guidance to team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience/Skills Required

  • Technology- or data-related bachelor’s degree and/or a minimum of ten years of experience managing complex technical ecosystems, including CRMs (Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce), fundraising tools (Fundraise Up), and email marketing systems (HubSpot), preferably in a nonprofit environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with Power Automate or comparable workflow automation tools strongly preferred; experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools a plus.
  • Strong skills in enterprise data management, including data modeling, deduplication, data hygiene, importing and exporting data between systems, and report development.
  • Expertise in software evaluation and implementation, including vendor management, contract review, and product implementation oversight.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget, with strong project management skills across cross-functional initiatives.
  • Experience managing staff and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and deliver effective training and presentations.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy and data quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing organizational needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and comfort working within SharePoint and Teams environments.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Compensation

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included. The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000.
