Currently, care for people with PD is varied and comprehensive care is not easily accessible. The goal of the Parkinson’s Foundation Global Care Network is to connect people diagnosed with PD to expert clinical care that supports their symptoms management and quality of life. The Global Care Network broadens the Foundation’s footprint of care settings – closing the gap between those diagnosed with PD and those receiving comprehensive care, information and support. Our aim is to ensure that all people with PD have access to equitable and quality care —getting what they need, where and when they need it. These designated Centers of Excellence must meet and maintain rigorous care, clinical research, professional training, community education and outreach criteria. Centers of Excellence are typically found at academic medical centers. The Center team is led by a movement disorders neurologist, who works closely with a variety of other health care professionals who are up to date on the latest research, PD medications and therapies. Future updates will be posted here in 2027. *Updated April 2026.* For more information, please contact ****. - ### Center of Excellence Criteria **Comprehensive Care** - Maintain a caseload of at least 800 unique adult patients with Parkinson’s disease over the last 12 months - Provide care across the full spectrum of issues facing people living with Parkinson’s disease (PD), including motor, non-motor, and cognitive symptoms - Demonstrate working knowledge of all evidence-based treatments for Parkinson’s disease to deliver high-quality care - Promptly triage and manage urgent medical needs - Demonstrate ongoing quality improvement efforts to improve care at your Center - Deliver person-centered outpatient care with a coordinated team approach at the point of diagnosis and throughout the PD journey - Maintain a team of professionals with expertise in caring for a person with PD to include: - Two or more neurologists with training in adult neurology and movement disorders - One or two neurologist(s) should serve as the Center Medical Director(s) - Neuropsychologist or psychologist - Functionally trained neurosurgeon - Social worker - Registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician’s associate - One or two licensed healthcare professionals should serve as the PD Center Coordinator(s) (preferably a nurse, social worker, therapist) - Provide access to the following professionals with expertise in caring for a person with PD: - Physical therapist - Occupational therapist - Speech-language pathologist - Genetic counselor - Pharmacist **Professional Education and Training** - Demonstrate a commitment to clinical education and training for healthcare professionals (e.g., nurses, rehabilitation therapists, advanced practice providers, physicians) within your institution, through in-services, grand rounds, formal rotations, fellowships, etc. - Demonstrate commitment to education and training to healthcare professionals within the local community/region - Build and nurture a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment, through participation in the Parkinson’s Foundation Team Training program, to equip members to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care for people with PD **Community Education and Outreach** - Provide Parkinson’s Foundation educational materials and resources to people with PD, care partners and families (e.g., newly diagnosed guide, hospital safety guide, fact sheets, webinars) - Host an annual symposium (preferably co-branded and in partnership with the Foundation) - Offer a PD 101 program, a newly diagnosed program, and/or a lunch and learn program for people with PD, care partners, and families - Provide or promote access to mental health and wellness programs, support groups, and exercise programs - Disseminate current information about Parkinson’s disease to people with PD and care partners (e.g., Center newsletter, webinars, email) - Promote patient engagement (e.g., patient advisory board) **Research** - Conduct PD clinical trials or investigator-initiated clinical research - Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent, as appropriate - Provide access to or information about research and clinical trial opportunities - Participate/promote clinical research funded in partnership with the Parkinson’s Foundation ### Comprehensive Care Centers ![Parkinson's Foundation Comprehensive Care Center logo](/sites/default/files/styles/380x361/public/images/ComprehensiveCareCenterlogo.png?itok=BxxO4tnX) The Parkinson’s Foundation has designated Care Centers in the U.S. These designated Care Centers must maintain rigorous care, professional training, community education and outreach criteria.
