Jill S.

My dad has been living with Parkinson's disease (PD) for 14 years. We, as a family, managed it very well until he had to have back surgery. After his surgery, his Parkinson's progressed quickly. All of a sudden, he was constantly leaning and no longer able to complete his thoughts. Out of concern, I started looking for things to do to get him out of the house and give my mom a break. That's when I discovered Rock Steady Boxing.

Exercising through Rock Steady Boxing has changed his life and mine. I am now a certified coach and currently have 22 fighters on my roster. My dad stands up straight, walks better and most of his cognition has come back as well. He has a community of people similar to himself and they have a great time punching bags and doing activities to keep some of their symptoms away. He is slow at doing most things, but he is still functioning. Most importantly, he is still my dad.

I know that this disease will eventually progress, but I am doing everything I can to keep him up and moving as long as possible.

I love my dad and will do anything I can to help both of my parents. I take care of my mom and she takes care of dad. My family is unique because we do work together for a common goal.
