# Neuro Talk: Research Update from The CSO

 Jan 14, 2025

Over the past few years, [Parkinson's disease (PD) research](/advancing-research "Advancing Research") has undergone a dramatic transformation. Scientists are moving beyond the traditional focus on the brain alone and adopting a whole systems approach to understanding the disease. Today, research is looking at the interconnected roles of the brain, [gut](/events/2023/Oct11WW "Expert Briefing: Parkinson's and the Gut-Brain Connection"), [inflammation](/blog/science-news/inflammation "The Link Between Inflammation & Early Parkinson’s"), [genetics](/understanding-parkinsons/causes/genetics "Genetics & Parkinson's") and [environmental factors](/understanding-parkinsons/causes/environmental-factors "Environmental Factors") in the development and progression of PD.

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) are also playing a key role, helping researchers analyze vast amounts of data to uncover new insights and potential therapies.

In this Neuro Talk update, join James Beck, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer at the Parkinson's Foundation, as he discusses this evolution in Parkinson’s research and what this could mean for the future of those [living with PD](/living-with-parkinsons "Living with Parkinson's").
