Community Outreach Intern – Great Plains Region

Reports to: Maddison Watkins, Director, Community Education & Outreach
Position Status: Unpaid
Position Timeline: January, 2024 to May, 2024, 8-10 hours per week
Location: Remote - Prefer Kansas City Metro Area

The Parkinson's Foundation makes life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure. In everything we do, we build on the energy, experience, and passion of our global Parkinson's community. 

The Great Plains Regional Outreach Intern will help support our team and will work remotely with staff and volunteer leadership to support all mission & outreach work related to chapter events, programs, partnerships and Parkinson’s Foundation resources.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff in Great Plains region with executing community outreach plans with a specific focus on General Neurology Outreach

  • Assist with marketing and advertising activities leading up to educational programs, including phone calls to local organizations, adding events to online calendars, working with local media outlets, etc.

  • Recruit organizations to host satellite watch parties for hybrid chapter symposiums

  • Develop community outreach spreadsheets for chapters throughout the Great Plains, including contact information for clinicians, senior living communities, etc.

  • Reach out to organizations in outreach spreadsheet to discuss potential collaborations, including PD 101 presentations, distribution of resources, etc.

  • Update resource listings for chapter websites throughout the Great Plains (support groups and wellness programs)

  • Communicate with Parkinson’s support group leaders and fitness instructors across the Great Plains to provide them with information and resources

Experience/Skills Required

  • Current college undergraduate student (Junior or Senior) or graduate student

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Interested in the non-profit sector

  • Access to computer, phone, and internet

  • Prior work or intern experience a plus

  • Ability to work remotely 

  • Travel is not required but encouraged (within the Great Plains, travel expenses will be covered)
