The National Parkinson Foundation announces the launch of the new "Discussion Corner Forums"

What is new and exciting:

• The new forum system is no longer email based:  It is now a bulletin board system.  For more information, please refer to the Discussion Corner Forums Frequently Asked Questions.
• A team of experts from the NPF Center of Excellence at the University of Florida in Gainesville will answer your questions according to their respective specialties.
• Our four Parkinson disease experts have all completed fellowship training in movement disorders and movement disorders surgery, and currently run (as co-directors) one of the premier clinical-translational research  centers in the country at the McKnight Brain Institute.

These experts are:

Michael S. Okun, M.D., a neurologist with fellowship training in movement disorders and movement disorders surgery.  Dr. Okun is particularly involved in motor dysfunction (tremor, stiffness, slowness, wearing off of drugs, and dyskinesia), DBS surgery, DBS programming, benefits and complications of DBS, management of medications following DBS, new devices for the treatment of PD symptoms, stem cells and viral vectors.

Kelly D. Foote, M.D., a neurosurgeon with fellowship training in movement disorders and movement disorders surgery.  Dr. Foote is particularly involved in deep-brain stimulation (DBS) surgery, patient selection for surgery, the surgical procedure itself, microelectrode recording, post-surgical complications, and new surgical therapies for Parkinson disease.

Hubert H. Fernandez, M.D., a neurologist with fellowship training in movement disorders and clinical trials.  Dr. Fernandez is particularly involved in non-motor symptoms (cognition, mood, behavioral problems), clinical trials for movement disorders, new medical therapies, novel/non-conventional treatments, and botulinum toxin therapy.

Ramon Rodriguez, M.D., a neurologist with fellowship training in Movement Disorders and Surgery for Movement Disorders.  Dr. Rodriguez is particularly involved in the clinical management of the motor and non motor symptoms associated with Parkinson disease and Parkinsonian syndromes, clinical trials, deep brain stimulation and the translation of the latest research developments into clinical practice.
