Improving Care

With a mission to improve the quality of care for people with Parkinson's disease through research, education and outreach, the National Parkinson Foundation works each day to improve outcomes for patients.  Contributions of our generous supporters have, throughout the history of NPF, helped advance our understanding of Parkinson's disease and effective therapies for it. NPF has long promoted aspects of Parkinson's care that goes beyond the race to invent the next pill or surgery: we have funded research into physical therapy, occupational therapy, care for the depressed or anxious, and respite care for caregivers. In doing so, we have found that, for example, by better understanding what physical therapy techniques are more and less effective we gain insight into how the brain works and how Parkinson's affects it, and this, in turn, provides insight into all aspects of Parkinson's research.

Our cause is urgent--this year, more than 60,000 patients were diagnosed here in the United States, joining the one million people living with the disease.  NPF's research and education efforts are focused and results-oriented, and we need your continued support to improve outcomes for people living with the disease, now.
