Shortage of Sinemet

Many of you have heard the rumors about a Sinemet shortage. Merck has acknowledged the problem and has informed us that it was due to a change in their manufacturing process that did not change the formulation at all but did trigger the requirement of a manufacturing process quality assessment in several countries, but not the USA. Until this assessment is completed, only Sinemet manufactured prior to the process change is available in the affected countries.

In a letter to the Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) dated 8/19/10, Dr. Michael Rosenblatt, Chief Medical Officer of Merck, advised health care professionals who have a medical information question about Sinemet to contact Bristol-Meyers Squibb's Medical Information Center at 1-800-321-1335.
