Irene O’Brien from Cresco, IA
Nominated by her daughter Sheila Rassman
I nominate my mother Irene O’Brien, because she is a positive role model to others. She is always cheerful and doesn’t let her PD get her down. She has dedicated her life to caring for people. I especially remember the great care she gave to my father while he struggled with health related issues and kidney dialysis in the last years of his life. She never put herself first, and often time her PD took a backseat to her care for him. My mother always makes the best of any situation, and her strong faith helps her through the most difficult times. My mother and I attend a Parkinson’s support group together, and her compassion and concern for the members in the group warms my heart. I’ll always remember her words throughout life...'Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.'
