Gary Altman from New Castle, PA
Nominated by his niece Christine Sherman
I would like to nominate Gary Altman for Parkinson's Superstar. Gary is my Uncle. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's 11 years ago. Since his diagnosis, He joined a support group and has become very active in it. He is an inspiration to keep moving forward and has the taken steps to spread the awareness in such a small community.
In 2011, He started a Team for Moving Day in Pittsburgh. Our team consists of 6 members from a small town. We were proud and excited that we fundraised over $4000. We received an award for placing 3rd in the Walk for the amount of funds we raised. We are looking forward to topping that in the walk this year.
I admire my Uncle for his determination to keep moving. He has not let Parkinson's get the best of him. I feel he has made a difference in our community by creating awareness and more importantly leading by example. I am proud to be a part of his Team for Moving Day. Also, I am proud of him for his desire to live his life to the fullest. He is indeed a Superstar.
